Singularity
Jun. 16th, 2007 11:14 amMy knee was killing me yesterday. It's likely a combination of the lethargy, joint pain, and my mad-ass bikin' style (yes, mad-ass, not bad-ass). The downstroke was particularly tough and there were a few hills on both the ride in and the ride home that I looked at mentally and said, "OH HELL NO," but stubbornly rode up anyway. Yes, one day I will pay for this stupidity.
After dinner at the diner and ice cream from the Trolley Car, I iced the knee. First, I used the herbal pack that I keep in the freezer--since it's full of rice or beans or whatever pellets, it's flexible and stable and ideal for using while spinning (hey, the action's all in the ankles there... Right?). Then, when I went to bed, I rigged an overnight ice pack by wrapping the ice pack in an Ace bandage around my knee. This morning--no pain.
I found a picture of Mike and Luis on the Internet!!! Here're the two of them getting some lecture after weighing in and passing the swim test:

Miki's the red-shorted man with the Celtic tattoo on his arm...
I've also been checking the scoring results on the Solar Splash site. Temple's initial place of 2nd has faded from all memory--they're now firmly in the middle-to-end of the pack. Funny story: when I talked to Mike last night, he told me about one of the day's events; I think it was the sprint... Anyway, he said the steering on the boat went kerplooey and he ended up going in circles instead of a straight line. I told him that I saw the scoring includes an award for perseverance and that I thought if any team should get that accolade, it should be Temple. I mean, come on! Then, he told me about the team that was racing and suddenly the boat took on water and sunk. The team? US NAVAL ACADEMY. After positively guffawing, I said, "Well I guess they're done, then!"
And Mike said, "NO."
"They're Navy..."
"Get out--did they bring another boat?"
"No--they lifted the boat back to the surface and tweaked it and are back in the competition!"
"Shit--they're going to get the perseverance award!"
"I know! I was sure we had it... Oh well, we can still get best rookie award--Turkey's not doing so well."
Thursday night, after a falled attempt to meet with some knitter-types in the 'hood, I made a concoction: corn bread mixed with black and pinto beans, topped with cheddar cheese, and then baked to scrummy perfection. I used a GF cornbread mix and doctored it up with 1/4c polenta and a generous dash of Miss Angela's Chili Powder (which, by the way, I'm running out of! Alas! Alack! Woe!).
I managed to hack at the lawn last night. I found a pseudo-Swiss Army knife in the weeds. I cut the neighbor's grass (that's the sort of bitch I am). I vacuumed the house. I fixed/adjusted my front brake. I kinda-lubed my chain. Tonight, I need to quick finish up the dishes, clean the toilet (ew), make up the futon and quite possible change the sheets on my bed.
I'm debating taking Tuesday off. Wouldn't that be decadent!
